Sensor Systems, Inc. releases a new image processing package RemoteView-Desktop
Sterling, VA, August 23, 1999 - Sensor Systems, Inc. today announced the release of the new RemoteView-Desktop version 1.0 image visualization product. RemoteView-Desktop allows virtually anyone to immediately harness the power of large file image viewing. It provides interactive image processing and analysis capabilities with very high image quality standards and is not dependent upon hardware acceleration.
RemoteView-Desktop is a low cost viewer designed for Microsoftä NT/Windows 98 based on the highly successful RemoteView Professional or Pro now widely used for both US Government and commercial applications. Desktop combines a complimentary set of image processing tools based on the advanced engineering principles of RemoteView Professional, but tailored for everyone who wants to view digital airborne or satellite images.
The power of RemoteView-Desktop is its ability to easily handle very large images of 2-3 gigabytes and above with the same ease that it can display smaller images. Steve Huff, Chairman of Sensor Systems, Inc. voices the company’s concern with processing speed while retaining image quality, “The size of the image does not matter. We handle all image sizes with the same speed while sustaining the integrity of their native formats.”
RemoteView-Desktop supports a number of common imagery formats including: LANDSAT, SPOT, NITF 2.1, GeoTIFF, JPEG, RADARSAT and others. The tools provided include the ability to enhance, zoom, rotate, and annotate images. Additionally, the images can be exported into common Windows products like Microsoft Word TM, PowerPoint TM and others.
The software runs on common PC hardware with no special requirements. A minimum machine configuration should have Windows 95/98/NT 4.0 or higher, a Pentium II 300 (or equivalent), 128 MB RAM, and a 32/24 bit display graphics card.
“This product is designed not only for the image analyst but also for any consumer who needs the ability to rapidly display and manipulate large satellite images, including the new one meter data that will soon be available to the commercial world.” says Sensor Systems founder and Chairman, Steve Huff.
The RemoteView family is the premier software application for the import, viewing, reporting and analysis of commercial remote sensing data. RemoteView's high speed processing chain and carefully refined user interface combine to enhance workflow and boost productivity on even the largest images. A graphical toolbar provides intuitive controls for all common image-processing functions, and its folder design provides a natural way to organize projects.
RemoteView comprises a complete family of compatible products from simple viewers to Mapping, Charting and Geodesy (MC&G) applications, and integrates naturally with leading GIS software such as ArcViewTM. The user is presented with the same "look and feel" across capability levels, minimizing both procurement costs and training requirements as users move up to new functionality.
Sensor Systems, Inc. was founded in 1985 as an engineering consulting company in technologies related to imaging systems. The company initially provided engineering support to clients in the design and characterization of infrared and optical sensors, and in the development of standards-based image processing systems.
Sensor Systems developed considerable experience applying UNIX systems to image analysis, database and exploitation problems. The company has ported UNIX to new architectures, developed numerous device drivers, and gained a high level of expertise with RISC processors, multiprocessor computers, mass storage peripherals, graphics displays and windowing systems.
In 1990, Sensor embarked on the development of a portable, high performance, object-oriented software architecture designed to scale onto the new generations of "super" microprocessors from DEC, HP, SUN, Silicon Graphics, IBM and Intel. From this common source base, comprising some 1.5 million lines of modern object oriented software, Sensor develops and manufactures software for the visualization, storage and analysis of medical and remote sensing imagery. This source base represents a unique capability for building highly capable image processing and visualization software products that run on industry standard platforms.
In July of 1998, Sensor Systems released RemoteView-Pro, a remote sensing image analysis and visualization system. This system allows users to roam over gigabyte-size images and apply a wide range of processing operations within an easy to use "working folder" environment, complete with graphics and hyperlinks. RemoteView-Desktop is the first NT product of Sensor Systems to be followed soon by an NT version of RemoteView-Pro.
