Space Imaging And Sensor Systems Sign Strategic Partnership
Partnership Opens Up Marketing Opportunities for Both Companies
DENVER Colo., February 15, 2000 — Space Imaging and Sensor Systems today announced a new global strategic partnership that benefits both companies’ customers by creating a stronger affiliation between Space Imaging’s high-resolution satellite imagery and Sensor Systems’ image analysis software. As part of the agreement, Sensor Systems, located in Sterling Virginia, will become a reseller of Space Imaging’s IKONOS imagery, the world’s first commercial one-meter resolution satellite imagery. Space Imaging will also become a reseller of Sensor Systems’ RemoteView product line, one of the most comprehensive image analysis, visualization and geospatial processing software tools available. In addition, both companies will participate in joint strategic marketing and product development initiatives aimed at developing powerful new imaging solutions using IKONOS imagery and RemoteView software.
“RemoteView is intuitive and streamlined, boosting user productivity on even massive datasets,” said John Copple, Space Imaging’s chief executive officer. “We’re pleased Sensor Systems has combined image analysis and GIS vector capabilities in RemoteView. It will be a valuable tool for our IKONOS imagery customers. Sensor System’s planned support for specific application areas is an ideal complement to our imagery. We are very pleased to have Sensor Systems join us as our most recent strategic partner.”
This partnership will ensure that Sensor Systems customers can take full advantage of IKONOS imagery — the highest resolution satellite imagery available to commercial industries. IKONOS promises to usher in a new era in Earth imaging. Products from IKONOS will have unlimited utility in a number of markets including local government, mapping, agriculture, forestry, emergency response, utilities, telecommunications, real estate, environment, national security, transportation, and insurance and risk management. For example:
· Highly detailed maps of entire countries can be made for the first time.
· Farmers can more precisely monitor the health of crops and estimate yields.
· Scientists can look at environmentally sensitive areas and predict trends.
· Government officials can monitor and plan enlightened land-use policies.
· Farmers can more precisely monitor the health of crops and estimate yields.
“IKONOS images are truly revolutionary, offering an unprecedented combination of resolution, quality and geodetic accuracy,” said Steve Huff, Chairman of Sensor Systems. “Our engineers have worked closely with Space Imaging over the past two years to ensure that RemoteView’s visualization and analysis tools are tuned for IKONOS. We are enthusiastic to have the opportunity to present IKONOS imagery to our customer base, which will benefit from this new level of Earth information. This agreement provides true synergy, combining the talents and products of two industry leaders.”
The potential uses for the imagery are vast and many new applications are only now being realized. The first IKONOS products were introduced to global commercial markets in early January 2000 and new, high-resolution, map-accurate products continue to be made available (new product announcements are posted on newswire.spaceimaging.com).
As part of the agreement, Sensor Systems will continue to design its products to derive maximum benefit from the superior geospatial accuracy and multispectral resolution of the IKONOS imagery. Specifically, Sensor Systems will add enhanced multispectral processing algorithms to its powerful image calculator and plans to develop enhanced products designed for the needs of specific markets including agriculture, real estate, land management, cartography and environmental monitoring.
Sensor Systems’ RemoteView software is one of the industry’s most capable products available for dealing with the information-rich high-resolution images like those taken by IKONOS. RemoteView provides an extensive range of features and capabilities that merge the technologies of raster-based images and vector-based geographic information systems.
About Sensor Systems
Sensor Systems is the developer of industry leading applications for image visualization and analysis for remote sensing and medical imaging. The company’s RemoteView family of products is in use by government and commercial installations around the world and is the premier application for the exploitation of high-resolution satellite and other forms of remotely sensed imagery. Sensor Systems’ medical imaging products, MEDx, Digital Image Archive System (DIAS), and NeuroNavigator, are installed at over 400 of the world’s leading medical research facilities and hospital centers, including one of the world’s largest medical imaging archive systems at the National Institutes of Health.
About Space Imaging
Space Imaging is a leading supplier of space imagery, aerial photography, mapping services, and derivative geographic information products and services. The company launched the world’s first and only one-meter resolution, commercial imaging satellite, IKONOS, on September 24, 1999. Space Imaging also collects and/or distributes Earth imagery from the Indian Remote Sensing satellites, the U.S. Landsat, Canada’s RADARSAT and the European Space Agency’s ERS satellites. In addition, Space Imaging distributes imagery from the Japanese JERS imaging system archive. The company also delivers aerial-derived imagery products collected by its own Digital Airborne Imaging System (DAIS-1™).
